Biography

José Antonio Ocampo is a Professor at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs. He is an economist, former Secretary-General of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and was Colombia's Minister of Finance and Public Credit. Until mid-2007, he served as the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs. In that role, he led the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) in New York and chaired the United Nations Executive Committee on Economic and Social Affairs.
