Biography

Luis Videgaray Caso is a Mexican economist and politician. Since 2012 he has been the Secretary of Finance and Public Credit of Mexico.

Prior to this, he coordinated Enrique Peña Nieto’s presidential campaign (2012) and Eruviel Ávila’s campaign for the governorship of Mexico State (2011). His public-sector career includes serving as a Federal Deputy and as Chairman of the Budget and Public Accounts Committee of the Chamber of Deputies (2009-2011), Secretary of Finance in the Mexico State government (2005-2009) and National Coordinator of the State Ministers of Finance (2008-2009), among other positions.

In the academic sphere, he has taught at the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM) and the Ibero-American University. He holds a doctorate in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from ITAM.
