José Antonio Meade Kuribreña is a Mexican economist and currently Secretary of Social Development of Mexico.
He formerly served as Secretary of Foreign Affairs (2012-2015). Prior to that, he was at the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit as Secretary of Finance and Public Credit (2011), Undersecretary of Finance and Public Credit (2010-2011), Undersecretary of Revenue (2008-2010), Head of the Coordinating Office of the Secretary (2006-2007) and Director General of Banking and Savings (2000-2002). He was also General Manager of the Rural Finance Bank (2003-2006) and the National Bank of Rural Credit (2002-2003).
He has received recognition for his research in the area of economic analysis of the law, an Honourable Mention in Economics and the Tlacaélel National Prize.
In the academic sphere, he has given courses on Microeconomics and Macroeconomics at the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM) and Yale University and on Economic Analysis of the Law on the ITAM Public Policy master’s course and different diploma courses. He holds an Economics degree from ITAM, a Law degree from UNAM and an Economics doctorate from Yale University.
