Erwin Rafael Contreras is a Belizean economist and serving Minister for Trade, Investment Promotion, Private Sector Development and Consumer Protection of Belize.
He has worked in a number of accounting and finance roles in the private sector, for firms such as Barclays, Belize Bank, Deloitte & Touche and the Development Finance Corporation.
In the public sector, Mr. Contreras worked as an economist for the Ministry of Economic Development between 1993 and 1995, and as a Project Officer for the Reconstruction and Development Corporation (RECONDEV) in Belmopan (1996-1998). In 1998, he was elected to the House of Representatives and served as chair of the Public Accounts Committee. He is presently the parliamentary area representative for Cayo West.
Mr. Contreras holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of the West Indies.
