Biography

Ana María Liliana Sánchez Vargas de Ríos is a Peruvian diplomat and lawyer and has been the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru since 2015.

The positions she has held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs include: Official on the Coordination Staff of the Deputy Minister and Secretary-General, Director for the Andean Community of the Department for Economic Affairs, Director of Development and Border Integration at the Department for American Affairs and, in the last four years, Ministry Chief of Staff.

She was promoted to the rank of Ambassador on 1 January 2013.

Outside the country, she has served in the Peruvian Embassy in Hungary, the Peruvian Consulate General in São Paulo (Brazil), the Peruvian Consulate General in Mexico City and the Permanent Representation of Peru to the Organization of American States (OAS).

In 2008, she was decorated with the Military Order of Ayacucho, in the rank of Commander.

She entered the Peruvian Diplomatic Service in 1983. She graduated in Law from the Catholic University of Peru and has a degree in International Relations from the Diplomatic Academy of Peru.
