Biography
Alejandrina Germán is a Dominican educator and politician, and is the serving Minister for Women’s Affairs of the Dominican Republic.
Ms. Germán previously worked as coordinator of the multidisciplinary teams that carried out the evaluation of Colegio Universitario and the global assessment of the curriculum of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD). She also coordinated the curricular development area of the National Council of Higher Education (CONES) during the period 1985-1986.
In the political sphere, she served as the delegate of the Party for Dominican Liberation (PLD) to the Electoral Board of the National District for general elections (1990) and to the Central Electoral Board for general elections (1994-1996) and congressional and municipal elections (1998). She led the Electoral Commission during the election of presidential and vice-presidential candidates between 1994 and 1996, and the election of congressional and municipal candidates (1998). In 2005 she was elected to chair the Secretariat of Political Education of the PLD, an office she still holds today.
Appointments in the public sector include: Chair of CONES, with the rank of Secretary of State (1996-1999) and Secretary of State of the Office of the President (until 2000). She also held the office of Secretary of State for Education between 2004 and 2008.
In academic life, she has taught in the Pedagogy Department of UASD since 1976, has lectured in Education at the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) and has taught specialization and Master’s courses at the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (INTEC). She earned an undergraduate degree in Education Sciences from UASD (Magna Cum Laude, 1974), completed her teacher training in French (Cum Laude, 1976) and holds a Master’s degree in Higher Education (Summa Cum Laude, 1984). She has also attended and passed specialization courses and seminars, both in the Dominican Republic and abroad.
