An informational meeting about the thirty-fifth session [1] of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) took place this Tuesday, April 8, in New York, with representatives of member and associate states of this regional organization.

The gathering at the United Nations headquarters was led by ECLAC’s Deputy Executive Secretary Antonio Prado; the Officer-in-Charge of the Secretary of the Commission, Luis F. Yáñez; and the Director of the Subregional Headquarters for the Caribbean, Diane Quarless. They unveiled the provisional agenda [2] of the meeting—to be held May 5-9 in Peru’s capital—which include the presentation of the document Compacts for Equality: Towards a Sustainable Future.

The biannual session is ECLAC’s most important meeting. It is attended by delegates from its 44 member states and 12 associate members, as well as representatives of the United Nations system and non-governmental organizations.

In Lima, participants will have a chance to analyze the region’s current economic, social and environmental situation, as well as future challenges. They will also evaluate the activities carried out by ECLAC in the last two years to fulfill its mission, aimed at promoting development with equality and environmental sustainability in Latin American and Caribbean countries.
